Basic education

 


Basic education is the level of education in formal education that underlies the secondary education level. Primary education is applied to the nine years of childhood of every citizen, especially to children aged 7 to 15 years. Basic education is held in educational units in the form of elementary schools and madrasah ibtidaiyah or other equivalent forms, and is continued in educational units in the form of junior high schools and madrasah sanawiah or other equivalent forms. Basic education is included in the compulsory education program for every citizen, which is the responsibility of the government.

According to the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 6 of 2019 concerning Organizational Guidelines and Work Procedures for Primary and Secondary Education Units, Basic Education is a level of education in the formal education path that underlies the secondary education level, which is held in educational units in the form of Elementary Schools (SD) and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) or other equivalent forms and become an integral part of continuing education in educational units in the form of Junior High Schools (SMP) and Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) or other equivalent forms.
